Tension has heightened in Obodoukwu Imoha Nkerefi Community in Nkanu East local Government Area of Enugu state following the brutal murder of one Uwanuakwa Umahi by his own son.
It was gathered that the middle aged suspect identified as Chinedu Umahi inflicted serious injury on his father using a machete last weekend.
A source said the victim was resting in his house on that fateful day when his son suddenly came in with a machete and started to maim him with the weapon.
The deceased was said have attempted to escape through the window but could not as a result of several injuries he sustained.
It was gathered that he became unconscious after the cuts and was rushed to General Hospital Agbani for treatment but was confirmed dead after a short time.
Confirming the incident, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu stated investigation into the incident had commenced.
He disclosed that the suspect has been arrested, adding that the remains of the deceased had been deposited “at the Hospitals mortuary for autopsy”.
Meanwhile, the Enugu state command of the Nigeria police force has disclosed that there would be shooting/Range practice at its shooting Range situated beside Superior police officers mess,Agbani Road,Enugu from 4th september,2012.
A release from Amaraizu advised “members of the public to be guided by this information and avoid any form of loitering and transactions within the area and at the same time not to entertain fear as a result of this as it is a routine exercise. The commissioner of police enjoins all the good people of Enugu state to go about their normal lawful businesses”.
