SAD: Landslide Kills 18 People In China, Seven Of The Victims Are Part Of One Family

China has started the new year with a natural disaster that claimed lives of its citizens. This is coming as Voice Of America reports suggests that Chinese authorities say at least 18 people have been confirmed dead and dozens are missing after a landslide swept through a village in southern China. Local authorities and state media said rescuers had recovered 18 bodies in the village in Yunnan province, including seven people from one family.
Man Bites Off Journalist's Ear, Says He Mistook Journalist For Land Grabber
A 50-year-old man in Abeokuta has reportedly bitten off the ear of a journalist, the journalist who was on official duty in Ogun state, was investigating the origin of late Olusola Saraki. The Journalist whose name is Saheed Ganiyu was mistaken by Akala for land grabber who wanted to inspect his family property in the area where the incident happend. Akala has been arraigned at a Magistrate's court for the crime, and since been granted bail but the case has been adjourned till later part of the year for further hearing.

Former CBN Governor, Charles Soludo Arrested By EFCC, To Be Charged To Court Over The Printing Of Polymer Notes
There are confirmed reports that Professor Charles Soludo has been arrested by EFCC operatives in Abuja yesterday. He was arrested alongside some other senior officials of CBN over the printing of N5, N10, N20 and N50 polymer currency notes. His arrest was in connection with the controversial contract he awarded to an Australian firm for the printing of polymer currency notes while he was governor of the CBN between 2006 and 2008. The anti-corruption agency have prepared the grounds for his trial as soon as all evidences are perfected against him and the others arrested.
Police Arrest Governor Lamido's Son Again, This Time For Killing A Man With His Speeding SUV
This may not be the best of times for Governor Sule Lamido and his family, as his first son has again been arrested. Aminu Sule, the Jigawa state Governor's son was arrested for knocking a man down as he attempted to cross the road into Rumfa College. Although Aminu has been granted bail, but no one is sure if the police will eventually charged to court for the crime. The victim has also not been identified.
Shipload Of Toxic Wasted At Lagos Port
According to Vanguard news reports, security and environmental officials yesterday, quarantined a ship laden with e-waste which they said is toxic and posed major threat to humans. The ship, M.V Marevia brought in two containers considered very dangerous and sent port officials into a panic mode. The newspaper reports further stated that the vessel which is currently anchored at the Tin-can Island Container Terminal (TICT), was quarantined by officials of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) with other port agencies keeping vigil on it. Reliable sources said to Vanguard that the vessel which berthed on January 5 originated from Tilbury in England and that the importers were based at Alaba International Market.

Man Jailed For Ten Years For Handcuffing Himself To Colleague, Just To Get A Date
According to Catoosa news reports, a man has been handed a ten year sentence for handcuffing himself to a colleague in a desperate attempt to get a date. Jason Earl Dean, 25, attached himself to his 18-year-old co-worker at a Taco Bell as she left their workplace, after trying to get her attention for a month. Mr Dean waited outside the fast-food restaurant until the woman finished her shift at 9pm and handcuffed himself to her as she tried to get into her car. He fled after fellow staff at the fast-food restaurant in Ringgold, Georgia, heard her screaming and came to her rescue. According to the 18-year-old, Mr Dean had been ‘making passes’ at her for a month before the August 2011 incident, trying to convince her to go out with him.

Laughable But True: Osun State Government Officials Arrest Five Goats For Violating Enviromental Laws
I could not let this report pass without bringing it to your attention, it has been reported by Daily Sun that no fewer than five goats were yesterday arrested at Dele-Yesa area in Osogbo, the Osun State capital by officials of the state Waste Management Agency (OWMA) for allegedly violating environmental laws. The state Coordinator of the agency, Mr. Henry Ogunbanwo said the goats would be charged to court by the agency and would be prosecuted in accordance with the laws guiding environmental protection in the state. Very laughable considering the amount of better things to do with time and tax payers' money.

SHOCKER: Former Bayelsa Governor, Timipriye Sylva Left Only N4,451 In The State's Account
There are media reports that former Bayelsa state Governor, Timipre Sylva left the sum of N4,451 (four thousand, four hundred and fifty one Naira) in the state's account as at February 2012, when he was removed from office. This revelation was made yesterday by the current state Governor, Seriake Dickson, who said he inherited N4,451 from his predecessor. In case we have forgotten, the state is one of the states that gets a better part of the Federal Allocation Funds monthly oooo. Them don kill Nigerians with looting.
Soldier Arrested For Kidnapping Indian In Abeokuta
Men of the Nigerian police have reportedly arrested a soldier for his involvement in the kidnapping of an Indian. According to Punch newspaper reports, the Indian Kumasi was kidnapped in Abeokuta and his abductors demanded a ransom of N2million before he could be set free. The suspect was roun- ded up on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where he allegedly wanted to pick up the N2million ransom.
