Asiwaju Bola Tinubu Calls For The Senate To Be Scrapped

The National Leader of the major opposition party in Nigeria, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, advocated the total scrapping of the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly. Tinubu, a former Senator whose wife is also a serving Senator said scrapping the Senate would give room for effective legislation and reducethe cost of governance.
He made this call at the annual awards and lectures of the Leadership newspaper held at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Abuja.

In his words  “We have kept complaining about the cost of governance and the recurrent expenditure that is not even allowing the proportion of the country for developmental programmes,” “but we have never examined the structural problem of even the constitution that we are operating. “Why do we need two Houses of the National Assembly? Why not get rid of the Senate for slim and better legislative activities? Let us start examining that.”

  1. i totally support you Asiwaju Tinubu, Federal Government shuold scrap the upper house. Just few days ago Senegal parliament passed a bill to scrap their senate due to high cost and the bill was originated from their president. I think we should do so in Nigeria. The cost of running our senate can be channeled into something good for our dear Naija......
