Taliban Bomb Experts Captured in Afghan Raids

According to Afghan local news reports, three Taliban members involved in directing insurgent operations and building bombs in Afghanistan were captured during joint Afghan and Nato forces raids in Afghanistan, Isaf said Wednesday. Tolo news reported that on Tuesday, a senior Taliban facilitator was detained in Talah wa Barfak district of Baghlan province, while on Wednesday in southern Kandahar province a Taliban improvised explosive device (IED) cell leader was captured in the Zharay district while an IED specialist
was detained in the Kandahar district.
The Taliban facilitator captured in Baghlan "is believed to be a major figure in the region's improvised explosive device network, which had targeted Afghan and coalition security forces, as well as Afghan civilians", Isaf said.
The IED cell leader arrested in Zharay is suspected of personally placing multiple roadside bombs in and around central Kandahar and is believed to have coordinated the movement of explosives throughout the district, Isaf said.
The security force also detained two other suspected insurgents during the Zharay district operation, it added.
The Kandahar district IED specialist built bombs to use in attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces throughout the region, Isaf said.
