Fulani leader killed, 2 injured as farmers, herdsmen clash in Sokoto - Daily Trust

                          

The leader of Fulani in Kwargaba village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Ardo Umar Kwargaba, was killed Tuesday night during a clash between herdsmen and farmers in the area.
Two other persons were said to have been injured while many huts of the herdsmen were destroyed during the clash that started around 8.pm and lasted for about six hours.

Chairman of Wurno Local Government Area Alhaji Shehu Alhaji Chacho confirmed the clash and the killing of the Fulani leader but said normalcy has returned to the area.
The spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Elmustapha Sani, confirmed the clash and the casualties, noting that his men have arrested some persons in connection with crisis.
However, our correspondent gathered that the crisis started on Tuesday following the attack of a farmer by the a group of herdsmen on his farmland.

Tension was still very high in the village as at the time of filing this report. A resident said the crisis started around 8.am on Tuesday and lasted till early hours of yesterday.
The district head of the area, Alhaji Umar Shehu, said the grudge between the herdsmen and farmers was an age-old one.
