The police in Ekiti State yesterday said that they have arrested one Tope Jinadu, an alleged serial rapist and armed robber who had been terrorizing the Ado-Ekiti metropolis and its environs in recent times.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr. Jimoh Mohammed, alleged that the suspect, aged 22, and from Ado-Ekiti, was arrested in his hideout by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) during a raid conducted at Ojumose area of the state capital on April 1, 2012.
He said the suspect and other members of the gang now at large had been declared wanted by the police for sundry offences before the leader of the gang, Tope, was finally arrested.
Items allegedly recovered from the suspect, according to the police statement, included 17 Blackberry handsets, eight HP laptops, nine DVD players, three gold necklaces, and undisclosed amount of money.
The police spokesman also disclosed that Tope and his gang were linked with some armed robbery attacks and defilement of female students in Ado Ekiti in recent times. News as reported by Daily Trust
