10 Pupils Drown In Downpour - The Nation

Ten pupils were swept to death by a flood following yesterday’s early morning downpour in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
They were attending classes at the Living Foundation Nursery and Primary School in Tundun Kauri when the incident occurred.

A three-year-old girl has died after falling 60 feet from a fourth-floor balcony of an apartment block. The child fell to her death from a communal balcony at an apartment complex off the Wicker in Sheffield city centre where she lived with her family. She was taken to Sheffield Children's Hospital but was pronounced dead at 5.10pm last night. According to shocked residents who spoke to Daily Telegraph, "The ambulance came and about five or six police cars as well. "The balcony in question must be about 60 or 70 feet off the ground."
Micheal Jackson's Tiger Is dead
A tiger that belonged to Michael Jackson when the entertainer lived at his Neverland ranch, has died of lung cancer at actress-activist Tippi Hedren's wildlife preserve in California.
The 13-year-old, 375-pound tiger died June 11, Hedren said Wednesday. A necropsy was performed and the tiger was cremated. Staff workers will hold a private service when the ashes are buried in a section of the preserve set aside for animals that die there. The tiger was named Thriller by Micheal Jackson.

Rihana Escapes Fire In London Hotel
Pop star Rihanna early this morning escaped fire from a London Hotel .London Fire Brigade says she was among 300 people evacuated from conrinthian hotel after an early-morning fire in an elevator shaft. According to Celeb Region news, the fire brigade said the alarm was raised at 6:22 a.m. (0522 GMT) and 10 firefighters dealt with the blaze on the 7th floor of the luxury Corinthia Hotel. There were no reports of injuries. No offical reason for the fire incident has been realeased yet.

Iran Sentences Two Men To Death For Drinking Alcohol
Two Iranians, whose name have not been released, are to be executed in Iran after they were caught drinking alcohol, Hurryet Daily News reported on Monday quoted local media as saying. A British man has committed suicide by climbing up the Eiffel Tower in Paris and jumping to his death, officials said on Monday. Court Stops Jonathan From Renaming UNILAG
There are media reports that, a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Monday granted an interim order restraining the Federal Government from renaming the University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University
The order was granted by Justice Stephen Adah, who is hearing the case brought by the alumni association of the university. Justice Adah also advised the litigants to harmonise all suits on the matter into one case and then adjourned further hearing till July 4.

BREAKING NEWS: Bomb Explosion Rocks Bauchi State
I have confirmed that a bomb has just exploded in the Bayan Garin area of Bauchi state. The area is famous as a hub of social activities, as many bars and restaurants are located around there. Residents are scared to leave their houses as they have stayed behind closed doors. Some reports indicates that the bomb exploded close to a football viewing centre, but I have not confirmed that right now. There are presently no confirmations about casualties, I will keep you informed soon.

Boko Haram Breaks Into Damaturu Prison, Freeing Detained Members
Police sources said suspected Boko Haram gunmen staged a daring attack on the Damaturu prison on Gashua Road, freeing several inmates around 6:00 AM. Police spokesperson Frank Mba has confirmed to journalists that unknown gunmen staged a jailbreak today in Damaturu. He stated that they freed about 40 inmates, injured a prison warder and that one fleeing inmate was killed in a gunfight.

Court Sentences Man To Death For Stealing N1,705 and Milk
A Federal High Court in Jos, the Plateau state capital has sentenced a 26-year-old man, Obinna John, to death by hanging for robbing a woman of N1,705. The convict was also said to have robbed his victim, Mrs Dorothy Olaniyi, of two rolls of sachet peak milk, valued at N400. John, in company of an accomplice, also named John, now at large, on November 18, 2005, robbed the woman, a resident of Gada Biu, in Jos, in her shop, at gunpoint.
