One Of The Most Powerful Drug Traffickers In The World Sentenced In The US

A U.S. federal court in San Diego, California, Monday morning has dictated a sentence of 25 years in prison the Mexican Benjamin Arellano Felix, accused of drug trafficking and money laundering offenses who pleaded guilty this year. “The Benjamin” Arellano is liable to a reduced sentence, agreed between defense lawyers and the Federal Attorney in San Diego for pleading guilty to the charges, according to local media reported Sunday.

The former head of the cartel of the Arellano Felix in the 90′s first faced a sentence of up to 140 years in prison for charges in 2003 of conspiracy to commit drug trafficking, murder, kidnapping, torture and money laundering.
The U.S. agency control drug (AED) in the border region of California with Mexico found that the defendant’s guilty plea meant “the end of the Arellano Felix drug cartel. ” Arellano was arrested on March 9, 2002 in the city of Puebla, and the Government of Mexico extradited him to San Diego the end of April 2011 where he is known as the “Secretary Sanchez.”
Arellano pleaded innocent at first, but then changed his plea in January 2012, when he pleaded guilty. The federal courts in San Diego have prosecuted 11 of the 12 cartel leaders and lieutenants of the Arellano Felix original. Only Lieutenant Manuel Aguirre Galindo remains a fugitive from justice in both countries.
