Police IG warns policemen not to run away from criminals
acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar

I was amazed to read this news in Punch newspaper today, that the Police chief has threatened to deal with policemen that run away from criminals during attacks. My question to oga M.D Abubakar is, what have they done to ensure that those policemen that die in the line of duty don't just die in vain? Have the authorities given these officers relevant and adequate trainings that will make them tackle these criminals that attack them? What has he the IG done to improve the welfare junior officers, that in most cases come under attacks? According to the words of the police boss's representative in Jos

“Of a particular worry is the increasing number of attacks on police stations. Similarly, it is a cause for concern the increasing number of police officers killed in the line of duty.
“You can’t afford to run away when there’s trouble. Post sufficient men around your stations and when there’s problem, face it squarely, you don’t run away. Then, the enemy will think twice before attacking you.
“The Force will no longer tolerate this development. You are hereby charged to effectively marshal your resources to bring crime down to tolerable level and muster your men to provide adequate security for police stations and barracks.
“As effective managers, you are to immediately embark on musketry training and retraining for the ranks. This is in addition to other confidence-building measures such as riot drill.” according to punch newspaper. Oga Police stop putting the cart before the horse, let these junior officers feel proud of being policemen first, then you will see that they will be more committed to the job especially when they know that they are duly insured.
