We are not fools anymore....Senate committee probe of Pension funds

                              Mr. Abdulrashid Maina

I have been watching with dismay and anger, the proceedings at the Senate Committee probe on Management of Pension Funds in Nigeria and I wonder if these people (Senate Committee Chairman, Nigerian Police Pension Board, and the Chairman of Pension Task Force) still think we are still foolish people. Just two days ago, I watched the testimony of Mr Abdulrashid Maina mentioned that 32 Nigerians are behind Pension fraud in the country. Now his testimony did not surprise me like the reaction of the Senate Committee Chairman, who instantly was trying to stop Maina from completing his testimony on this 32 rogues. The chairman's reaction infuriated a member of the committee who openly said he was tired of the country called Nigeria. According to Maina, he has submitted the names of the fraudsters to the
committee. At that point, I became confident that those names will be summoned and investigated and maybe eventually prosecuted.

The next day at the public hearing, events took another turn as a member of the Nigerian Police Pension Board openly accused Maina of depositing N88 billion Naira of Police Pension Fund in his brother's Fidelity bank account, an account that yields N100 million interest monthly. He went as far as giving the details of the account on national television. As this drama which would be a blockbuster movie if scripted by Hollywood movie makers continues, I am wondering if these people think we are still foolish people. My question now is who is fooling who? Maina in his testimony said his life and other members of his Task Force are in danger, and the same man has just been named as the kingpin of pension fraud in the country. Is this how we will continue to be played? I rest my case as I won't say much for now until I see this matter to the end.
