19-Year-Old Man Accused Of Trying To Kill Emir Of Kano, Dies In Prison While Awaiting Trial

                                      

Daily Trust has reported that a 19-old-man, who was charged to court for allegedly attempting to assassinate Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero in 2010, died in the wee hours of Sunday while on admission.
 Usman Musa was arraigned after a foiled attack on the respected monarch after Muslim Juma’at prayer inside Kano Central mosque, located behind the emir’s palace on July 9, 2012.

The report further stated that the accused person fell ill while in prison custody and was last week moved to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital (MMSH) in Kano, where he died. His elder brother disclosed that the deceased, who had spent more than two years in detention awaiting trial, was rushed to the hospital by prison authorities in Kano when his health condition deteriorated seriously.

“He was taken to the hospital unconscious and then abandoned there without food or medicines,” said Faruq Musa Muhammad. Musa, who said his late brother was buried on Sunday evening, disclosed that the family was not comfortable with the circumstances surrounding his death.
