The body of a 12-day-old premature baby girl was eaten by rats when staff left her corpse unattended on an Indian hospital ward overnight. Shocked mother Malar Kumar and her husband Ranjith were first told that tears to flesh on the infant's cheek and ears had been caused by the septicemia that had killed her. But they later learned the baby's body had been left in a corner of the Kasturba Gandhi Women and Children Hospital's intensive care unit in Chennai, overnight - where it had been partially eaten.

Nine employees, including two doctors and five staff nurses, have since been suspended in connection with the horrifying incident, according to The Hindu newspaper.
