According to Daily post's eyewitness accounts, the police had escorted the staff of the finance department of the local government, who withdrew the unspecified amount of money at a new generation bank in Maiduguri, the state capital, but were confisicated along Magumeri-Gubio highway, noting that the heavily armed men who drove in a white Starlet saloon car at about 2.30pm, intercepted the vehicle carrying the police escort and the local government officials.
The source said: “They brandished sophisticated guns and shot the victims before they took away all the money that was withdrawn from the bank.”
Chairman of the local government said: “Nobody can say from where the gunmen came. The unfortunate thing had happened. Lives have been lost and colossal amount of money robbed.”
“We have also recovered the dead bodies for burial,” he added.
