Policeman And 3 Others Killed By Armed Robbers In Bullion Van Attack

There are media reports that four persons including a police sergeant and two middle-aged women were, Tuesday, killed by a six- man robbery gang, who attacked a bullion van at Mowo Bus-Stop on Lagos- Badagry Expressway and carted away an unspecified amount of money. According to an eye witness account by Vanguard newspaper, the robbers, who drove a dark coloured Toyota Avalon and a jeep to the scene around 3:30 p.m, opened fire on the bullion van and its escort that was heading toward Lagos and sent
motorists, traders and passersby scampering for safety.

The eye-witness told Vanguard, that ”the robbers shot indiscriminately as they engaged the police in a gunfight. Those who couldn’t escape were either killed or injured.

“It was like a scene in a movie. The armed robbers were all young men in their early 20s. They shot sporadically into several directions the moment the bullion van approached them and killed a police sergeant who was seated in front. ‘Two other women who were passengers of a car and a commercial bus were killed on the spot while a little boy was also killed.

”The robbers, after opening the bullion van carted away all the money in it before escaping through Ado-Odo Road in their get-way jeep.”
