Policemen Crush Man To Death With Hilux, Over Missing Chicken In Bayelsa

An unfortunate but avoidable incident happened to a man, Odoko Iwama who was married with four children and hailed from Okodi in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. He was crushed to death by policemen who wanted to arrest him because of a missing fowl (chicken), according to reports by Sun newspaper and eyewitnesses reports, the policemen crushed him to death with the Toyota Hilux truck they were driving because he wanted to run when he saw policemen.

The sad thing about this incident is that Iwama was not accused of stealing the fowl, but his crime was that he joked with his friend about seeing him with the stolen chicken in the compound. A joke that reportedly went wrong leading to his friend inviting policemen to arrest him for accusing him of stealing the missing fowl.

According to Iwama's wife,  in her words: “My husband in his usual playful manner approached his friend popularly known as Bomber and said ‘Bomber, Ifeanyi said his fowl is missing and I saw you killing one fowl today, are you sure that is not Ifeanyi’s fowl you have slaughtered? “The question offended Bomber and they engaged in a fight, which we were able to put under control. “Later in the evening, unaware that Bomber had called Operation Doo Akpo to arrest him, he went out to buy recharge card. On getting to the road Bomber started pointing at him to the police officers, who did not come out of their Hilux truck. Bomber shouted, ‘this is the man, this the man.’ "Surprised that Bomber could call the police, my husband who was trying to avoid another attack from Bomber ran, and before we knew it, the police van in full speed hit him and he fell on the ground. He died on the spot.”

There are reports that Bomber and the Hilux have been arrested by the police, but my question is why have the policemen not been arrested? How can you hit a man you intend to arrest with a car? I hope all the policemen in the truck as at the time of the incident are all brought to book.
