Gunmen Kidnap Woman With Her 5-Month-Old Baby

There are reports that a nursing mother and her five-month-old baby were kidnapped yesterday in Asaba, Delta State. The nursing mother, Mrs. Benedeth Ogbenyeanu Offorkansi who teaches in one of the secondary schools in Asaba, was taking her two kids to school when the kidnapers intercepted and ordered her into their vehicle. According to Daily Sun reports, the woman was driving her husband’s vehicle at about 7:00a.m when the kidnappers overtook and blocked her. Immediately she stopped, two members of the gang jumped out of the vehicles and ordered the school teacher into their vehicle, a command she quickly obeyed to avoid being shot.
 
The report also stated that the kids Offorkansi was taking to school were abandoned after their mother and their sibling were whisked away.  One of the kids was quoted as saying “I called my daddy on phone and narrated what happened and he immediately came and took us back home.” Sources close to the family based on Daily Sun reports, said the kidnappers had contacted the family demanding as ransom, tens of millions of naira from the husband who looked bewildered over the incident.
